Citrix Depreciate On-Premises Cloud Support

Citrix Depreciate On-Premises Cloud Support

With the release of the latest Current Release (CR) of Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) version 2003 Citrix has announced that they have deprecated on-premises support for VDA workloads hosted on the following Clouds:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Cloud Platform

What Does This Mean ?

From this current release version it now means that VDA workloads deployed in AWS, Azure, or Cloud Platform are now deemed by Citrix as unsupported. VDA workloads in these Clouds will continue to work with CVAD 2003 but will not be supported by Citrix.

In Citrix article Citrix states that whereas this depreciation is not enforced in CVAD 2003, future releases will have multiple enforcement mechanisms.

What Are The Options ?

There are two options available for Current Release customers affected by this announcement which are:

Option A – Migrate to CVAD 1912 LTSR which will continue to support Cloud based workloads and be supported for the next 5+ years
Option B – Move to the Citrix Cloud Virtual Apps and Desktops Service (CVADS)

It looks like unwittingly I became certified for Citrix Cloud on Microsoft Azure at the right time because it looks like Citrix are really going to push it now !
