Creating A Graph Template

The next step in the installation is to create a Graph Template to display the results obtained from the remote Windows Server.

To create a Graph Template for the CPU Load of a remote Windows Server perform the following steps :-

  • Logon to Cacti as an Administrative account
  • Click on the Console tab
  • Click on Graph Templates in the Left Hand Pane
  • Click on Add to create a new Graph Template
  • Configure the Graph Template Name and Title as shown below

Graph Template Name – WMI-CPU-Load-Graph-Template

Title                                  – |host_description| – CPU Load

  • Click on Create to create the new Graph Template

Adding Template Items

The Graph Template Items dictate what is displayed in the graph itself and link back to the Data Source Names which were configured in the Data Input Method.

To add Template Items to the Graph Template perform the following steps :-

  • In the Graph Template Items section click on Add
  • For the Data Source select WMI-CPU-Load-Data-Template-(CPULoad) from the drop down box
  • Configure the Colour to the desired colour
  • Configure the Graph Item Type to AREA
  • Configure the Text Format as CPU 0
  • Click on Save to add the Graph Template Item

The item above will create the graph of the remote Windows Servers CPU 0 Load in an area format only.  To add a legend to the graph showing the Current, Minimum. and Maximum values perform the following steps :-

  • In the Graph Template Items section click on Add
  • For the Data Source select WMI-CPU-Load-Data-Template-(CPULoad) from the drop down box
  • Configure the Graph Item Type to GPRINT
  • Configure the Consolidation Function as LAST
  • Configure the Text Fomat as Current
  • Click on Save to add the Graph Template Item
  • In the Graph Template Items section click on Add
  • For the Data Source select WMI-CPU-Load-Data-Template-(CPULoad) from the drop down box
  • Configure the Graph Item Type to GPRINT
  •  Configure the Consolidation Function as MIN
  • Configure the Text Fomat as Minimum
  • Click on Save to add the Graph Template Item
  • In the Graph Template Items section click on Add
  • For the Data Source select WMI-CPU-Load-Data-Template-(CPULoad) from the drop down box
  • Configure the Graph Item Type to GPRINT
  • Configure the Consolidation Function as MAX
  • Configure the Text Fomat as Maximum
  • Click on Save to add the Graph Template Item

Saving The Graph Template

The last thing to do is save the Graph Template with the Graph Template Items added and to do this perform the following step :-

  • In the main Graph Template screen click on Save to save the new Graph Template
