Configuring A VMware ESXi 4.0 Virtual Machine

This article provides the steps on how to configure a new Virtual Machine on a VMware ESXi 4.0 host for testing FreeNAS.

To configure a new Virtual Machine for testing FreeNAS perform the following steps :-

  • In the vSphere Console create a New Virtual Machine
  • Select Custom Configuration and then click on Next
  • Name the Virtual Machine and then click on Next
  • Select the Datastore where you wish to store the virtual machine file and then click on Next
  • Select Virtual Machine 7 for the type and then click on Next
  • Select Other and then change it to FreeBSD (64-bit) then click on Next
  • Select One CPU and then click on Next
  • Increase the memory allocated to 512mb and then click on Next
  • Leave the Network Card select as One E1000 adapter and then click on Next
  • Leave the SCSI Adapter selection as LSI Logic Parallel and then click on Next
  • Create a new 4Gb Disk and then click on Next
  • Leave the Virtual Device Node as (SCSI 0:0) and then click on Next
  • At the Ready To Complete Screen click on Finish to create the new Virtual Machine
